well well well
today is valentines day
our first valentines in valantine LOL
mark decided to make a statement this year
not only did i recieve a beautiful silver braclet with a filigree heart lock with a amathyst in it but a bunch of bright orange oriental lily and a helium monkey balloon-
( that makes sense if you'd heard our very first conversation ever)
thats a wow actually it should be more like WOW or even WOW
we've never realy done valantines day
we do sweet things for eachother all year round whenever we feel like it
why do it on a specific day just because someone somewhere tells us to?
anyhow i feel a little bad because he made a point several times of saying DONT GET ME ANYTHING so for once i actualy listened to him and didnt- nothing zippo zilch nada
:oS oh well
i dont think he minds too much
he had enough trouble getting to midnight last night without giving me the bracelet! lol he loves pulling off a coup!( i made the mistake of saying he cant ever do or get me anything without me knowing about it) ok so i was wrong! lol
anyhow
had some fun the other day i set about dying samples of bridal tule-to match my gown colour--
now that may not sound interesting until you hear the fact that because of what its made of you realy cant dye it post production and have an even coverage- it just doesnt absorb dye
so how did i do it you ask? good question!
i had to use coffee and raspberry cordial!
a realy really really stong expresso mix ( 2 table spoons in 2 cups water) and 2 tablespoons of cottee's raspberry codial> ok on the coffee you say? makes sense - coffe stains stuff easily? yes yes it does and the lady at the store suggested it over tea because coffee is a more a pinky colour then tea
tea is a very greeny yellow kinda brown
so off i went on the coffee dunking a sample in and swishing it around rinsing it out and drying it ... and the more i look at it the more i'm thinking.....
thats just almost a straight yellow brown
after rooting around for 20 mins in the cupboard for the food dye and not finding it i was about to throw a dawn wobbly hissy fit ( ok so its full moon and i dont sleep at night when its full moon i had been up about 20 hours at this point-5am) when i looked up and saw the one red thing in our cupboard the cordial--- hmmm i thought - hey why not its only samples--- the first post cordial sample turned out pink and i mean PINK- untill i figured out the timing for the submergion which took 4 more samples
i now have a recipe and time for the vaguely near correct colour
now i can send off my fabric to the dressmaker
